The stop the day is built around
Hawaiian green sea turtles, honu, feed along the reefs of the North Shore and sometimes haul out to rest on the sand, something they do in only a few places in the world. Turtle Beach gives you an hour and a quarter with them, the longest stop of the day.
That's long enough to get in the water, not just take a photo. On the $59 Standard tour and private charters, snorkel gear is included free. Wear your swimsuit under your clothes so you don't lose time changing.
In the water, on their terms
Honu are protected under federal and state law. Stay at least 10 feet away, in the water and on the sand. Never touch, feed or follow a turtle, and give resting turtles plenty of room.
They're wild animals, so no tour can promise a sighting, but they're seen often here. In summer the water is usually calmest. In winter, when North Shore surf is high, swimming may not be safe and the stop becomes a beach visit. Your guide makes that call on the day.
